We began as a small tax consultancy in 1988 under the name Mentor Tax Services. In 1999, we rebranded to Qdos and began specialising in the new IR35 legislation which was enforced in 2000.
Since then we have assessed over 150,000 engagements for IR35 status, defended over 1,600 IR35 enquiries, saved contractors an estimated £35million in tax, and supported over 2,800 hirers and recruiters to compliantly manage the off-payroll rules.
In 2005 we began providing insurance cover for independent workers, pioneering IR35 insurance for limited company contractors and reimagining accident and sickness insurance for the contractor market.
Since then we have protected over 90,000 independent professionals across over 1,500 lines of work, including IT contractors, health and beauty professionals, rope access engineers, and electricians to name a few.
In 2018 Qdos became part of leading specialty insurance group, Tokio Marine HCC, following a twelve-year relationship underwriting Qdos business policies. Today we maintain our core values and personal service but with the backing of a global insurer with a solid foundation, proven track record, and excellent industry ratings.
